ek sal sing!

I am a free soul, singing my heart out by myself no matter where I go and call strangers my friends because I learn things and find ways to fit them into my own world.  I hear what people say, re-arrange it, take away and tear apart until it finds value in my reality and there I make it work.  I find spaces in between the cracks and cuts where it feels empty and there I make it work. (Charlotte Eriksson)

Partykeer moet mens terugkyk om dinge vorentoe te verstaan.

imageek onthou ‘n warm somer-middag in Viljoenskroon
toe ma half moedeloos vir my sê

ek wonder of sy stilweg kon lag
as ek huppelend
deur die modderpoele
voor haar deur kom staan
musiekboek in die hand
liza vorster sub a
ek wonder of die kwaaie juffrou Fenna
ná my
haar reëls vir ander
ook só
sou buig

Are you asking me if there is a God? he said, still in that soft voice. ‘All I can say is, I believe there is.  I feel Him when I sing.  He has responded to my prayers countless times.  He guides my actions and He dwells in my heart.  I know He is there.’  (Sharon Shinn)

Music speaks, it comforts, it strengthens the spirit when we go through trials.  I held onto music throughout my whole life. I was a fairy singing in the school choir when I was six years old.  My life bears testimony of school plays and youth choirs, I learned about discipline and team-work.  Life taught me that singing can lead me to joy, and sometimes in a twist…joy can lead to singing!

Let your heart sing from those wounded places.  When you sing your song with everything you’ve got, it will not only heal you, but it will heal all of us through you. (Gemma B. Benton)

imageek onthou jou ma
viool-lesse by goudrif
smoked beef chips op die agtersitplek
ek onthou jou fiat
en hoe jy moes ry
ek onthou jou geduld met my

ek onthou jou ma
toe jy jou droomhuis bou
en asseblief-tog vra
dat pa net iewers
imageop die heel verste punt
vir my
‘n muskiek-kamer
moes bou

ek onthou jou ma
toe jy moes spaar
want die note van die kandelaar-klavier
het saam met jou hande
op die lap gaan lê

imageek onthou jou ma
vir jou en pa
julle gesigte in die gehoor
terwyl ons sing
feëtjies, engeltjies of
mooi reguit lyne
in die koor

I sang because that is what I do when I am happy and when I’m sad.  I sang because it is who I am when I am being the best possible version of me.  (Ally Carter)

let me sing now, let me sing forever
that is the only way I know
I can keep things together

Singing in a storm silences thunder’s threats. (Matshona Dhilwayo)

Somewhere between the lines of being a child and a growing into a woman, I learned to glorify God.  Music taught me to focus on God. Music had the ability to bring my mind, my heart, my soul and my strength in alignment with God.  When life dragged me through the mud, I could keep my eyes on God through worship.

For you have been my help, and in the shadow of your wings I will shout for joy. (Psalm 63:7)

I will sing of your strength; I will sing aloud of your steadfast love in the morning.  For you have been to me a fortress and a refuge in the day of my distress. (Psalm 59:16)

He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God.  Many will see and fear the LORD and put their trust in him. (Psalm 40:3)

Sing to the LORD a new song, for he has done marvellous things; his right hand and his holy arm have worked salvation for him. The LORD has made his salvation known and revealed his righteousness to the nations.  He has remembered his love and his faithfulness to Israel; all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.  Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth, burst into jubilant song with music; make music to the LORD with the harp, with the harp and sound of singing, with trumpets and blasts of the ram’s horn – shout for joy before the LORD, the King.  Let the sea resound, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it. (Psalm 98:1-7)
